Burlesque on Carmen is Charlie Chaplin's thirteenth and last film for Essanay Studios, released in 1915 and then later recut into a different version in 1916. Charlie Chaplin played Darn Hosiery and Edna Purviance played Carmen (novella). Carmen was very popular at this time and two films under this title had already been released in 1915, one by Carmen (1915 Raoul Walsh film) where Theda Bara played Carmen and one by Carmen (1915 Cecil B. The film was an independent production, produced by Charles R. Rogers and David W. Siegel, directed by Archie Mayo, written by Harry Segall (who also wrote the screenplay for here omes Mr. Jordan and the play heaven can wait) and Roland Kibbee, and released by United Artists. Charley's (Big-Hearted) Aunt is a 1940 British comedy film directed by Walter Forde starring Arthur Askey and Richard Murdoch as Oxford 'scholars'. The film is one of many to be made based on the Victorian farce Charley's Aunt. Arthur Askey's professional nickname was "Big-Hearted Arthur", which was added to the title to distinguish it from Jack Benny's version, for its (limited) American release.

The town of Sleepy Hollow received a new teacher, Ichabod Crane (Will Rogers), from New York. Crane already knows of the legend of the phantom Headless Horseman and is sceptical about its truth. His teacing methods are harsh and he no sooner rubs the villagers the wrong way when he begins to see the famous apparition.
